Do you think that Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was a copy of Stars Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope?

Many believed it was. But it isn’t.

By the first look, the audience might feel there are a lot of similarities to this episode and the fourth episode and there are. But if you look at the storyline as a whole, it is entirely different and separate.

Episode VII takes the story beats of Episode IV and comes up with entirely different characters and motivations.

Star Wars faced the difficult task of getting audiences who remembered and grew up with Star Wars’ films in the past to engage with the future films without sacrificing the nostalgia the older audience may have felt. It is about characters trying to square their present with their past, even with their dialogues.

The movie made the audience ask, “What will happen next?’

The movie has been made on the structure of Ring theory. This means that specific story beats and themes repeat itself in the soap opera conflict of the Skywalker family.

4. Nostalgia

Nostalgia played a pretty important role in The Force Awakens part of the movie.

As previously mentioned, the director J.J. Abrams faced problems to make The Force Awakens look like a new but authentic Star Wars movie. He had to move forward to establish a new galaxy, which seemed better and more familiar than the previous ones. With more technology advancements, such as VFX, the movie did justice to the entire movie series franchise.

What was the main thing that attracted you to watch the movie?

There were many changes and adjustments to show the change from the previous films. For example, the Empire is now in The First Order, whereas the Rebellion is The Resistance.

Two of the original characters reunited, which was something the fans have been waiting to see for so long. Also, the audience gets to see new characters from this new world.

It was like watching the same movie with a wholly different feel, which definitely helped play on the nostalgia feel.

3. The Adventure

Everyone waited nearly a decade for this sequel to happen.

The most highlighting factor was the adventure that awaited in the story. The story lost sight of the political strategy and manoeuvring.

What was the most adventurous scene for you?

Even though the whole movie is full of humour, danger, and excitement, it begins like ‘A New Hope,’ with a droid who provides vital knowledge about the galaxy’s survival. Still, there are a lot of new things about this world to prove how courage and unity can help win any difficulties in life. Also, new characters like Poe, Finn, BB-8, and Rey are introduced. We see how these characters come together after going through all the difficulties and try to stop The First Order.

The troubles of the protagonists only move higher. They must go against other evil characters like Kylo Ren, General Hux, and the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke.

The central part of this story is that the creator made sure that all the characters have equal amounts of adventure and fun. Every role is essential, and it keeps the viewers closer to the story. No one would feel bored while watching The Force Awakens.

What were your expectations high before you watched Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens?

For many, they never expected such a great story and technical advancement from the movie.

J.J Abrams made it sure that the film was perfect from tip to toe. That is the main reason why The Force Awakens was scrutinized in each and every step. The audience and the critics expected that the film would lack originality, which is where the creators surprised everyone.

Even though some people insisted that The Force Awakens felt like it was far too different from any other Star Wars movie, the main plot was, undoubtedly, the same. What made the difference, what made the film feel so unique, was the technology and the creative way in which it was set up and written.

Also, the producers, Lucasfilm and Abrams’s production company Bad Robot Productions, created so much hype for the film that the theatres were fully packed. They gave the hope to the audience and the critics that the movie had something special and would make people watch it repeatedly.

Also, as soon as Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures took up the film’s distribution process, people had more hope. These hopes from the audiences were not disappointed when the film was shown.

J.J Abrams made it a point to bring in a new galaxy and break a lot of records, making people love the franchise even more. He gives us new hope that there is more to the franchise in the future.

With new hopes about the Star Wars franchise, let’s check some other facts about The Force Awakens.

The Magic

The magic of the series returns with The Force Awakens movie. There are a lot of shadows and myths revolving in the story.

We can clearly see the dark side and the bright side of the characters — the new force and powers which all the new characters possess.

But still few questions stay in the mind of every Star Wars fan. What does the first Jedi temple look like? Will Luke train Rey? Will Han Solo return? Will Rey and Finn reunite?

These are some questions that are left unanswered by the writers. This left audiences in a frenzy for future films to answer these questions, which is how we got Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Long Wait

It took one decade for The Force Awakens to form. After an impressive Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, people waited for the next one.

However, the majority of the audience were millennials for whom Star Wars was an entirely different world. That gave the audience a pretty decent pause and awakened them from the Star Wars zone’s long break.

Let’s now check the main reason why people loved Star Wars: The Force Awakens

1. The Characters

Who are your favourite characters in Stars Wars?

Many would say Finn and Rey. The movie stayed in the hearts of the fans because of them.

Let’s first talk about Finn.

The stormtroopers are not just goons who can be shut down entirely by the hero of the story. Finn is someone who deserted the oppressors, for what turned out to be moral reasons – something never shown in characters set up to villains. It showed that maybe intrinsically being trained for evil does not always mean a character will stay evil, which is a take that is very rarely shown in films, especially in films of this scope.

For Rey, an engaging and relatable protagonist, is extremely resourceful, persevering in what is undoubtedly a very harsh environment. There’s something bizarre going on with her since the very beginning. She gets involved by making a moral decision to help BB-8, as well as for releasing him from the other scavenger and refusing to sell him even when offered a fortune.

Luke also plays a significant role. When Luke was offered the adventure, he turns it down at first and only joined them when his home is destroyed. His family was killed, and he basically has no choice.

Luke was only good because he opposed Darth Vader, but he wasn’t intrinsically good. In the entire film, we can never see him do a good deed except as defined by fighting his nemesis. He is obviously partial to rescuing damsels in distress. Still, it’s not like Luke’s wandering through the world in active search after distressed damsels. Luke’s goodness is only defined by him being opposed to badness.

From characters to the break to the high expectations- The Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was all about how people wanted it to be. Why did you love the movie? Do let us know in the comments.
