Hey guys, welcome back to Watch Tank. Today, we are counting down the top 10 things you can learn about Dakota Fanning.
10. Family and background, stardom in roots
Dakota was born on February 23, 1994, into an athletic family in Conyers, Georgia. Her mother, Heather Joy, was a professional tennis player, while her father, Steven J. Fanning, played minor league baseball. He also worked as an electronics salesman in Los Angeles, California. Rick Arrington, her maternal grandfather, is a former American football player, and her aunt, Jill Arrington, is a former ESPN reporter. Dakota is the elder sister of Elle Fanning, who is also an actress; both were brought up as Southern Baptists. Her mother enrolled in Dakota in an acting class at an early age, and Fanning landed her first commercial at five years old.
9. Never too young in the film industry
While we may not remember what we were doing at the age of five, it inevitably didn’t involve your family suddenly leaving the country. Elle and Dakota Fanning were extremely bright kids who participated in community theatre and ballet at an impressively young age. It is said that Dakota started reading when she was two (Is this fact true?). Her parents moved to L.A. from Georgia as soon as they realized their daughter’s growing talent. They wanted her to grow big in the film industry. Dakota was initially schooled at home, and by her tutor Jan Cerwonka. Later she joined school, and in 2008-2009, she was a cheerleader for Campbell Halla private Episcopal Church college-preparatory school in California, which has several sports teams. Dakota finally graduated with honours on June 6, 2011.
8. Early career
Dakota’s first paid acting job was in Los Angeles for a Tide ad, and was successful in the commercials field. She entered T.V. as a guest on several popular shows, including Malcolm in the Middle and ER. In 2000, she was seen on such programs as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and The Practice. Fanning then earned a ticket to the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role in I Am Sam. Here she played the role of the daughter of a man with mental disabilities who becomes the subject of a custody battle. Elle also appeared in the film. Dakota broke big into Hollywood with her performance in the film besides Sean Penn.
During Dakota Fanning’s childhood, the actress starred in plenty of R-rated features that would have been highly inappropriate for a viewer of her age. The films included Trapped, Hide and Seek, Tomcats, Hounddog, and Man on Fire, where Fanning appeared opposite Denzel Washington.
In the crime thriller, Man on Fire (2004), Fanning played nine-year-old Pita, the daughter of a wealthy Mexican businessman. She was kidnapped by a Mexican crime cartel and held for ransom despite a highly-trained bodyguard/former assasin (Denzel Washington) assigned to protect her. A gruesome tale of revenge ensues, in which Washington’s character takes down anyone who took part in Pita’s kidnapping.
Considering how movies are made, it’s hard to know how much adult content Fanning was exposed to on the set, though one would only hope that Fannings’ parents waited several years before they let their daughter watch many of these movies in their entirety.
7. Road to success, big-screen hits
In IThe Cat in the Hat, Fanning played Sally, a beloved children’s book character who, along with her brother, must contend with a visit from the title character in 2003. She also starred with Brittany Murphy in a comedy Uptown Girls (2003). In 2002, Fanning played a young version of Reese Witherspoon in a romantic comedy, Sweet Home Alabama. She also appeared in the science fiction TV miniseries Taken, produced by Steven Spielberg, around this time.
Since these hits, Dakota has continued to work with A-list stars, and in 2005 Fanning played Tom Cruise’s daughter for a science fiction classic War of the Worlds. She also appeared in Hide and Seek, a thriller with Robert De Niro ,and with Kurt Russell in Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story the same year. She also lent her voice as Lilo Pelekai in the Disney animated movie, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. Fanning starred in Charlotte’s Web, a film adaptation f the book by E. B. White in 2006.
6. Interests beyond acting
Fanning loves to knit, and she stated that she learned to knit on the sets of her first film at the age of eight. Since then, it’s become clear she’s passionate about crafting; she has knitted scarves for every director she’s worked with. She also gifts her co-stars with personally-created pieces: Robert de Niro, Denzel Washington, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Cruise are all so lucky.
Along with knitting, Fanning plays the piano, and the violin, rides horses, collects dolls, and dances ballet. Also, she’s starred in campaigns for the likes of Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Uniqlo.

Dakota was understandably reluctant to disclose her exact reasons behind the second account. However, she did let slip that she uses it to check out if people have been lying to her, which might not be entirely useful now that the secret is out.

Dakota Fanning doesn’t like opening up about her personal life that often, but does mention her dating life on occasion. Dakota has been linked with several people, and one of them had quite a lot of age difference. Notable age differences are not uncommon in Hollywood relationships. Strachan isn’t a known face in Hollywood as Dakota, even though he had worked with well-known brands like Gucci, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors. Fanning dated him when she was just 19 and he was 32. However, they split in 2016. Since October 2017, she has been dating Henry Frye.Iin 2018, they met Frye’s parents during a trip to Cape Cod.
